Eyelid Surgery

Not only are your eyes considered windows to the soul, they can also show you age.

Eyelid surgery, officially referred to as blepharoplasty, is effective in removing extra skin and puffiness around the eyes.

Upper eyelid surgery (lid lift) is performed through an incision in the natural skin crease above the eyelash line to remove excess fat and skin. The result is more youthful and rested looking eyes.

Lower eyelid surgery is generally performed through an incision below the eyelash line. Fat, which often creates that ‘puffy’ appearance, is removed along with excess skin. An ‘incisionless’ method call transconjunctival blepharoplasty approaches the fatty herniations from inside the lower eyelid so that no incision through the skin under the eyelash is necessary. This approach is often best suited for younger patients or those without much excess skin.

Often eyebrow surgery is combined with eyelid surgery to reposition the brow to its original more youthful position. If the brow is too lax, then a brow lift should be performed.

If both the brow and lids are too lax, then the best solution might be both a brow lift and an eyelid lift.

Even more common is having eyelid lift surgery in conjunction with a facelift. By having multiple procedures done at the same time you will reduce your ‘down time’ and healing will take place all at once.

Brow Lift

The brow lift (forehead lift) is designed to rejuvenate the appearance of the brow and forehead by smoothing out forehead furrows, lifting sagging eyebrows and minimizing scowl lines between eyebrows. The goal is to look natural and rested, not startled or expressionless.

An eyebrow lift may not reduce all the excess skin of the upper eyelids nor improve the puffiness beneath the lower eyelids. This condition is best addressed with eyelid surgery or blepharoplasty.

Mid-Cheek Lift

Often the fatty tissues of the cheek below the eye fall with age giving a hollow appearance to the lower eyelid and sagging appearance to the cheek. A mid-cheek lift, performed through an incision in the natural skin crease under the eye, repositions these tissues to restore the youthful fullness of the lower eyelid and cheek.
